In pathological processes in the respiratory system, the heart is often affected. The right parts of the organ, in particular the atrium and the ventricle, expand and increase in size, causing various complications. This disease, the chronic pulmonary heart (CHS), leads to irreversible violations of hemodynamics (blood flow through the vessels), progressive circulatory failure.
What is the most common cause of chronic pulmonary heart disease?
The form of the ailment in question is developing over time. The main factor that provokes it, is chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. However, the causes of the disease may be other disorders of the respiratory system:
- pneumosclerosis;
- emphysema of the lungs;
- chronic bronchitis;
- bronchial asthma.
In addition to pathologies of the lungs and bronchi, the described pathology develops against the background of the following problems:
- recurrent vascular embolism;
- the primary form of pulmonary hypertension;
- adhesions in the pleural cavity;
- transferring the operation to remove the lung or its site;
- arteritis;
- obesity;
- deformation of the chest;
- lesions of the spine.
Symptoms and Diagnosis of Chronic Pulmonary Heart
Sluggish course of the disease causes the absence of expressed signs at the early stages of its development. Attacks of intense palpitation are gradually becoming more frequent, there is an increased physical fatigue even with light loads.
For a patient with a chronic pulmonary heart, dyspnoea is characteristic, which is amplified in the prone position, during the performance of simple work, the inhalation of cool air. It is also noted:
- pulsation in the upper epigastric region;
- pain in the heart;
- swelling of veins on the neck;
- drowsiness;
- arrhythmias;
- hypertension;
- decreased body temperature even in the presence of inflammatory processes;
- development of a stomach ulcer;
- increased liver size;
- headaches and dizziness;
- apathy;
- noise in the head;
- decrease in the amount of urine released per day.
Diagnosis of CLS is complicated, electrocardiography is performed to confirm this disease, radiographic examination and functional tests are performed.
Treatment of a chronic pulmonary heart
Therapy of the described illness is aimed at eliminating lung diseases that provoke CLS, as well as the prevention of their recurrence and the development of respiratory failure.
The main medical measures:
- oxygen therapy;
- bloodletting;
- breathing exercises;
- hyperbaric oxygenation ;
- massage;
- physiotherapy.
Drug treatment is prescribed
- diuretics;
- bronchodilators;
- mucolytics;
- glucocorticoids;
- respiratory analeptics;
- nitrates;
- antiaggregants and others.
