Christchurch Airport

Christchurch Airport is just 12 km northwest of the city center. Now the airport has three runways, two of which are asphalted. The length of one is 3288 meters, the other is 1,741 meters. The third strip is covered with grass, short, only a little more than half a kilometer long.

When was the airport founded?

The year of creation is 1936. Then the airport was formed Harewood in the suburbs of Christchurch . After 10 years, the first hangars for light aircraft were installed here. In another 5 years, two runways and two taxiways connected with them were built. In 1960 the first passenger terminal was put into operation.

You can get to the airport by taxi or public transport. There are buses and shuttles. The city center can be reached by bus no. 29 (about 30 minutes drive). Shuttle (fixed-route taxi) is hired purposefully. It is better to cooperate with other passengers, it will be cheaper. The shuttle to the city center can be reached in just a quarter of an hour.
