Red Cap Fish

A variation of the gold fish aquarium fish , or, as it is also called, a red cap, was known in Japan in ancient times. This fish refers to the selective helmet form of goldfish. The shape of the body is ovate, the length of the fish grows to 23 cm. The name of its oranga was obtained for a fat growth of red color, located on the head. This fish is considered more valuable if the red cap on her head is large.

Another distinguishing feature of the goldfish red cap is the presence on its back of the unpaired fin, while the other fins are bifurcated. Other helmeted fins on the back generally do not. In Thoracic fins, the caudal fin can not be in the form of a fork, and in length it should be at least 70% of the body length of the fish.

The color of the red cap may be different, but the most popular are white with a red head or cotton calves.

Fish Red Hat - care

Little Red Riding Hood - an aquarium fish is quite capricious and delicate. It feels good in water with a temperature of 18-24 ° C and does not tolerate any colder or warmer water. Oranda is a fairly large and slow-moving fish, so in a tank weighing in 100 liters should only be kept by a couple of individuals. This fish is calm and peaceful, easily gets along with other non-aggressive neighbors.

Feed red caps, like other goldfish, you can live feeds or their substitutes, vegetable top dressing, for example, salad or spinach.

It should be remembered that if the oranda feels uncomfortable: to freeze or starve, its main adornment - the red cap on the head - may just disappear.

Orans are very close to such aquarium plants as cabomba, elodea, vallisneria. You should not put in the aquarium, where they live red caps, sharp stones, which the fish can get injured. Since the fish is very fond of digging in the ground , it is better to use pebbles or large sand in the form of a substrate.

In the aquarium it is best to install a biofilter and a powerful aeration, since the red cap is very sensitive to a lack of oxygen in the water. Every week it is desirable to make a water change of about 25% of the total volume.

At the age of one and a half to two years, the red cap becomes sexually mature. If you decide to plant an orand, plant two or three males and one female into a separate container and after a while the fry will appear in the aquarium, which, as they grow, can be transferred to a common aquarium.

Under good conditions in the aquarium, the red cap can live up to 15 years.
