The Oran Zoo


The Oran Zoo is a veritable wildlife park located 20 minutes from the airport in Christchurch . To date, the zoo is a private property of the charity Orana Wildlife Trust. And for the first time he opened his doors in 1976.

What to see?

The Oran Zoo is a paradise with an area of ​​80 hectares. It is interesting not only to kids, but also to adults, and all because it is the only open-air park where there are more than 80 species of birds, mammals, reptiles. In Oran you can see tigers, turtles, giraffes, meerkats, kiwis, buffaloes, Tasmanian devils, otters, lions, rhinoceroses, kea and many other fauna.

The most courageous visitors decide on an excursion to that part of the park where predators dwell. Do not worry: walk is carried out in a small safe for your life van, with a kind of reminiscent of a cage. Of course, the option is not excluded that curious lions jumped on him, examining their guests.

It should be noted that there is a souvenir shop on the territory of the zoo, cozy cafes. Oran's owners do their best to make visitors feel comfortable - so, on its territory there are playgrounds and benches for rest.

If you do not want to sit still and want to get unforgettable impressions, then you have the opportunity to feed the giraffes and even pat them every day from 12:00 to 15:00. And you can meet face to face with a huge rhinoceros on weekdays, starting at 15:15.
