Rocks Three Sisters

Rock formation under the intriguing name of Three Sisters is in Australia , namely in the state of New South Wales in the Blue Mountains National Park . This is an integral part of the massif of the Blue Mountains.

Uniqueness of mountains

The Three Sisters Mountain consists, as its name suggests, of three peaks:

Under the rocks stretches the valley of Jamison, from which to the nearest settlement - the city of Katoomba - only half a kilometer.

The rocks consist of soft sandstone and look very unusual due to age-old erosion. To the rocks, Three Sisters leads a huge staircase, consisting of more than 800 steps.

The cost of the excursion to the mountains starts from 100 Australian dollars. For most of the day, the ridges are surrounded by a blue haze, formed by the evaporation of the essential oils of the eucalyptus trees growing here. To appreciate the amazingly beautiful panorama, visit the Eco-Point observation deck. From it you can see how the color and appearance of these peaks varies with the season and time of day. And in the evening, the artificial illumination of the Three Sisters necessarily turns on.

An interesting legend about the origin of rocks

According to the legend, which guides tell tourists, the peaks are named after three sisters from the katumba tribe, who once lived here. Allegedly the girls fell in love with the boys - three brothers from the neighboring nepin tribe, but according to the laws of the tribe such a marriage was impossible. Then the young men stole the brides, after which a terrible bloody battle began between the tribes. Shaman tribe kalitba turned the girls into rocks, so that nothing happened to them, but died during the battle, and no one could break the beauties.

There is also another version of the legend, according to which the girls were bewitched by their father, who possesses the powers of a shaman to save him from a monster. But it chased the shaman, and he, in order to escape from the persecution, turned into a small bird-lira and dropped his magic bone. Without it, the human form could not be returned to the sisters.

However, even if you are fascinated by the romantic flair of the legend, you should not blindly trust her. Scientists have proved that this is by no means the authentic folklore of local aborigines, but the creation of a local resident Mel Varda, who in the 1920s and 1930s tried to attract tourists to his region in this way.

How to get there?

In this town there are also trains from Sydney , and the road will take you no more than two hours. And if you do not want to walk from the train station, you can take a tourist bus that will take you directly to the Blue Mountains.
