History of creation

The park is in the beautiful, quiet bay of Golden Bay. It was established in 1942, and its name is due to the Dutch navigator Abel Tasman. After all, it was under his command that the European ship first reached the local coasts in the already distant 1642.

Location Features

Park Abel Tasman is located only on 225 square kilometers, which is not so much. On the one hand, its picturesque hills cover centuries-old trees, between which flow a gentle flow of the river of the Rio. On the other hand - rests in the ocean waters.

It is interesting that in one place to the park closely resembles the sea reserve Tonga, which is no less famous in these places. The last expansion occurred relatively recently - in 2008 it was added once the private land with a total area of almost 8 square kilometers.

What attracts tourists?

First of all, the object of tourist "pilgrimage" is the coastal zone and a special hiking route called the Koast Trek. It was laid directly along the coastline. The transition along the route will not be easy, because tourists are waiting for ravines, covered with bushes, rock formations, difficult climbs and sharp descents.

But there is something to admire - these are charming landscapes, including the sea, cozy, small bays, many beautiful, refined, but practically devoid of white sand beaches.

During the transition will be able to admire and unusual birds, living only in local places - they are not found anywhere else. This medo-bell, pukeko and thuya.

There is another tourist route called the Inland Track. But it is less in demand, because it is even more difficult to pass. First of all, this is due to the large number of marshy areas. Not so dangerous, but still unpleasant.

If you do not like this option rest, then you can just stay on the seaside, where there are parking lots for tent camps and kayaking (aboriginal boats).
