Breeding of scalars

Scalarians are the most common among the peace-loving fish aquarium pets. These fish are schooly, so they should be kept for 4-6 individuals. If two of your pets have joined together, and you decided to do the reproduction of the scalars yourself, then we will try to help you in this.

Breeding of scalars at home

With proper maintenance, the scalars are often spawned. The process of breeding scalars is not very difficult, but there are some points to take care of.

First, you need to purchase another aquarium, in which you later either plant a selected pair of scaly for breeding, or transfer the spawned eggs. If you want to seriously do this, then the volume of the aquarium should be at least 100 liters. But if you are not so determined, then 20-30 liters will suffice. In this aquarium there should be constant aeration and lighting, stable temperature and clean water.

Secondly, it is worthwhile to know the fact that the first 2-3 masonry clusters are unproductive and fish, as a rule, eat it themselves. Let them do it, this is a natural natural mechanism. After a while they will train, and the parental instinct will take its own: the scalars will be very careful to care for caviar and very aggressively protect their territory from neighbors.

Thirdly, the cultivation of fry malts will require you to spend quite a lot of time (mainly for feeding), take this into account when preparing.

If you decide to plant a pair of scalyards in spawning, then you will only have to feed your parents well, monitor the temperature and purity of the water, and the rest they will do themselves.

Immediately before spawning, the scalars intensively clean the surface selected for the masonry, most often a wide leaf of the aquatic plant. Then the female lays eggs, and the male fertilizes it. Immediately after the completion of this process, the leaf with caviar should be carefully transferred to spawning aquarium. Add a solution of methylene blue to a saturated blue color in the water.

The first few days care for the fry of the fry are reduced to monitoring them and removing the dead eggs. You can remove them with a thin glass tube or needle.

Feeding the fry of the fry

Approximately on the fifth or sixth day fry the fry are trying to swim independently. It is from this point on that you have to start feeding them. Artemia will be the first best fry for fry. Feed the kids need 5-6 times a day.

Just every day you need to clean the aquarium of food residues and partially replace water. In the same period, the aquarium should be fitted with a filter and add a few floating algae.

What to feed the grown-up fry of the scalar - such a question sooner or later you will have. When the fry of the scalar will grow stronger and grow up, you can go from Artemia to a small-cut pipe-man 6-7 times a day.

If you bought a large aquarium as spawning, the fry can live there for quite a long time, until will reach large sizes, then it will be necessary to resettle them. But if your spawning is about 30 liters in size, then you should worry about settling the fry of the fangs much earlier, otherwise by the age of three months the kids will be very tight there. But letting fry in the common aquarium, even if there are only their parents, is still a bit early. Therefore, you will need another aquarium, therefore, it is more practical and easier to buy a large spawning stock at once.

Summarizing, we can say that breeding scalars is troublesome, but interesting and yet not very difficult. We wish you success!
