TVP of the fetus by week - table

The term FHR of the fetus, measured by weeks of pregnancy, is understood as the thickness of the collar space, which is the accumulation of subcutaneous fluid, directly on the posterior surface of the child's neck. This parameter is fixed during ultrasound screening for the first trimester of pregnancy. The main goal of this study is to diagnose chromosomal abnormalities, in particular Down syndrome.

When and how is the TWP measured?

This study is carried out at a period of 11-13 weeks. This is explained by the fact that after 14 weeks the excess fluid available is absorbed directly by the lymphatic system growing in the maternal womb of the fetus.

After measuring the coccygeal-parietal size, the doctor uses the ultrasound transducer to detect the fetal TVP values, which varies during the weeks of pregnancy, and compares the values obtained with the table. At the same time, the subcutaneous liquid is fixed in the form of a black band on the monitor of the device, and the skin - in white.

How are the results of measurement measured?

All the norms of the TVP are scheduled for weeks, and are indicated in a special table. So, for example, at 11 weeks, the thickness of this collar space should not exceed 1-2 mm, and at a period of 13 weeks - 2.8 mm. In this case, an increase in the value of this parameter occurs in direct proportion to the growth of the fetus.

The increase in this indicator does not always indicate the presence of pathology. So, according to statistics, 9 out of 10 children, whose TVP is 2.5-3.5 mm, are born without health problems. Therefore, the evaluation of the results should be carried out exclusively by a doctor who, in addition to comparing values with tabulated ones, takes into account the individual characteristics of the future child. In no case will the future mother try to decipher the results independently.

However, the higher the index of this parameter, the more likely that the baby will have chromosomal abnormalities. For example, with TVP equal to 6 mm, it can be said with certainty that the baby born as a result of such pregnancy will have violations in the chromosomal apparatus. And this is not necessarily just Down syndrome.

Thus, TWP, which is variable by weeks of pregnancy and analyzed by means of a table, refers to those indicators that allow early diagnosis of intrauterine fetal development disorders.
