Many of us who do not have their own dachas and vegetable gardens, would like to try to grow tomatoes on the balcony. Cultivation of tomatoes occurs in a limited space and in a small amount of land. How to plant tomatoes on the balcony?

Before you grow tomatoes on the balcony you need to decide on the type and timing of seeding.

The seeds can be sown in February and up to April. If you sow seeds in February, the fruits will ripen at the end of June, planting seeds in April - the fruits will be in September.

Seeds are first soaked overnight in hot water. To do this, you can take a thermos bottle, pour hot water into it and dip the sacks containing tomato seeds into it.

In the store you can buy ready-to-seed seed or take it from your own backyard. Small containers are filled with earth, inside which grooves are made not more than one centimeter in depth. Then they are abundantly watered and seeds are sown.

After this, furrows with seeds should be covered with a small amount of soil. The same containers with seedlings are placed in plastic bags to provide greenhouse growing conditions.

To season the seedlings, it is necessary to place it in the refrigerator for several days.

Seedlings need to be ventilated daily and make sure that the soil remains moist. If moisture is not enough, then the substrate can be moistened from the atomizer.

What to feed the tomatoes growing on the balcony?

10 days after plant transplantation, the first top dressing is performed. Next, it will be necessary to feed the tomatoes two more times before you drop them into a large pot.

First feeding: the bushes are watered with 1/3 cup of urea solution with water (1 teaspoon per 3 liters of water).

Third feeding: one glass of the mixture, consisting of three liters of water and one tablespoon of nitrophosphoric or nitroammophoski, is consumed per plant.

Caring for tomatoes on the balcony

Tomatoes are photophilous plants, so you should take care of additional light in advance. With a lack of light, its stems will stretch. The lamp should be turned on twice a day - in the morning and in the evening for 3 hours. This will "extend" the day.

For irrigation, a water that has stood for a few days is suitable. The water just poured from the tap watered tomatoes is not recommended, because it is quite tough in its composition.

At the very beginning of plant growth, you should closely monitor the condition of the soil: it should not dry out, but it should not be excessively moistened, otherwise the roots may begin to decay.

At night the seedlings are best covered with foil or cans.

As soon as the seedlings have two leaves, tomatoes must be dived. A young plant is carefully removed from the ground at help the fork, and then put in plastic utensils. One plant is planted in one container. In the ground it is deepened to the cotyledons, then watered.

Then water the tomatoes twice a day - in the morning and in the evening. If there is cloudy weather in the yard and the land in the tank is still damp, then just one-time watering is enough. After each watering the soil is loosened.
