Diesel generators for home

Dependence on power lines is fraught with those unpleasant moments when the whole house lacks electricity. But without it all such necessary electrical appliances cease to work - a TV set , a computer, a washing machine , an electric stove, a microwave oven and, of course, a refrigerator. Well, if the interruption lasts only a few hours, and if the whole day, a day or longer? Agree, modern people find it difficult to live without electricity for a long time. And because many owners of private houses and cottages decide to install a device that helps to cope with dependence on power lines, - a diesel generator.

What are diesel generators for the house?

The diesel generator is an installation that is an autonomous source of electrical energy. Such a diesel power plant consists of two units: a diesel engine and a generator. In the first, when fuel is burned, thermal energy is generated, which then, when the shaft rotates, is converted into a mechanical one. Well, the generator itself turns the mechanical energy into electricity during rotation. In addition to these basic elements, the diesel generator is equipped with a coupling, overload protection components, a fuel level meter, a voltage regulator, etc.

How to choose a diesel generator for the house?

When choosing such a serious device, first of all, one should take into account such an indicator as the power of a diesel generator. It is worthwhile to focus on the purpose for which you decided to purchase it. A diesel generator of 2-3 kW of power is used in cases where it is necessary to cut off powerful power tools or appliances, for example, on a home construction site. For emergency power supply, choose the 5-10 kW diesel generator. If you decide to buy a generator for a cottage or a country cottage, we recommend calculating the total power of all appliances in the house that will simultaneously be powered by electricity from the generator. But usually for domestic use a diesel generator with a power of 15-30 kW is used.

For domestic needs and emergency outages, mobile diesel generators are produced that have relatively compact dimensions and low power. Such devices can work only up to 8 hours without interruption. Stationary diesel power plants with a capacity of 20-60 kW provide electricity day and night without additional maintenance.

When choosing a diesel generator, pay attention to the number of phases. Single-phase diesel power plants operating at 220 volts are suitable for home use. But the three-phase diesel generator (380 W) has more power, and therefore it is used in production, construction sites.

No less important parameter is the consumption of the diesel generator, which reflects the economy of the device. Here we mean the fuel consumption for each kilowatt of energy produced by the diesel power plant. Significantly, this depends on many factors, but here the main thing is to observe the correct ratio of the capacity of the unit, reported by the manufacturer, to the load that the device actually experiences. The most favorable load is considered to be 45-75% of capacity. Overload or underload in power equally leads to a large fuel consumption and reduces the longevity of the unit.

In addition to the above characteristics, we recommend paying attention to the type of start (manual, automatic or combined modes), the type of cooling (liquid or air) and dimensions.
