On the territory of Moscow, monasteries began to appear even before the invasion of Kievan Rus by the Mongol-Tatars. They were not only the center of spiritual life, but also served as defensive structures. Each year, they became more and more, as each successive ruler who came to power based at least one new one for his money.
How was the Holy Protection Convent in Moscow?
Pokrovsky Women's Monastery in Moscow began its history as a male. It was founded by Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich in 1635 in honor of his deceased father and grandfather. Completely it was completed and equipped only in 1655. There are two versions of why this name was given:
- Patriarch Filaret, the parent of the founder of the monastery, died on the Feast of the Intercession of the Theotokos;
- because of the location - at Pokrovskaya Gate.
In those days he was called the Tsar's Intercession Monastery, which is on the Poor houses. Gradually the territory of the monastery was upset. So in the 18th century the Temple of the Resurrection of the Gloating and the three-tiered bell tower 30 meters high appeared here, and in 1814 - the Church of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin. During the wars, it was destroyed, then rebuilt, and in 1920 completely closed. Since 1934, various organizations have been located in its buildings: a printing house, a sports hall, a film studio, a research and production association, an editorial office of a local print publication, and the entire western part was given to a park of culture and recreation, which later became Tagansky Park. Only in 1994 the building of the monastery was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church.

Pokrovsky Monastery in Moscow is located at: ul. Taganskaya 58. It is very easy to get to it. To do this you need:
- to reach the metro station "Taganskaya" or "Marxist", and from there by any kind of public transport along the streets of the same name to the stop "Bolshaya Andronievskaya";
- on the metro to get to the stations "Peasant Outpost" or "Proletarian", from them walk to the area Abelmanovskaya outpost.
