Zone of proximal development

Each parent sets himself the task of teaching something useful to his child. If we talk about the development and education of the child, it should be noted that this has its own laws. The brilliant psychologist Vygotsky LS at the beginning of the last century formulated one of such laws.

The essence of this law is that you can not teach a child something, showing him some action, and then suggest doing it. This applies to any active activity. A child can not be taught really by an order or a request. You can teach only if the parent performs the required task for a while with the child.

A bit of history

This law was formulated by him in the 1930s as a "zone of proximal development." It shows the inner relationship between the child's mental development and learning. According to this law, child development processes follow the processes of his education. And it is because of their mismatch (and, as is known, development sometimes lags) and there is such a phenomenon. The zone of the nearest development according to Vygotsky shows the difference between what the child can accomplish independently (the level of his actual development) and what he is capable of, being under the guidance of an adult. The level of actual development grows with the help of processes that are formed in the zone of the nearest development (any action on the part of the child can first be performed with the help of an adult person, the parent, and only then independently).

Vygotsky distinguishes two levels of development that are inherent in man: the first characterizes the momentary features of human development and is called topical, and the features of the nearest, future and future development, which characterizes the zone of proximal development, belong to the second level.

He believes that communication is the source of personal and mental development in ontogeny in general and allows the parent to help the child in the performance of that activity that has a learning character. As a result, the child will begin to perform these exercises on his own.

Some practice

A person, being at any age, can do something without someone's help, independently (remember a certain material, solve problems and come up with solutions that help to fix with some problem). This refers to the haratkristiki actual development.

That is, the zone of the nearest and the zone of actual development determines the state of mental development of the child.

Thus, you can not shout: "Go run!", And then wait for the child to like running. Or it is also unacceptable to say: "Leave the toys and take it away in your room", hoping that the baby will learn how to clean.

As you know, until a certain age, such parental orders do not work, but at any other age, parental guidance or advice works either poorly or insufficiently. So, that the child was carried away by running, it is necessary certain time to be engaged in run together with it. If you want to instill in him a love of books, then first read with him. These tips apply to dancing, tennis, cleaning and other activities.

The term "zone of proximal development" can be represented as two concentric circle. The first and the inner have a smaller size than the second one that surrounds it. The first symbolizes the activity of the child, and the outer symbolizes the activity of the parent together with the child. Your task is to gradually expand the circle of your child, which will be able to increase due to the external, yours. That is, only in the territory of a large circle can you instill in your child a love for some kind of activity.

It should be noted that it is desirable not to teach your child something artificially, but to put life together and inspiration into this activity and then the results will not take long to wait.
