Shproyerbrücke

Second after the oldest (1365) in Europe, the covered bridge Kapellbrücke (German Kapellbrücke) or the "chapel bridge" is the old bridge Sprouerbrücke (German Spreuerbrücke), which was opened in the first half of the XV century. Both bridges are on the Royce River, in the Swiss city of Lucerne . Today, it is one of the oldest bridges in the country and far beyond its borders, at least for this feature it is worth a visit. Here you can also see a whole series of XVII century paintings by artist K. Melinger on the single motif "Dance of Death".

origin of name

Once on the territory of the bridge in Switzerland , the city border passed, and people were allowed to dump the remains of the ground grain, that is, "chaff" or "chaff" into the river from the bridge. In German they are called Spreu. Shproyerbrücke was the only bridge from which it was possible to drop these very remains of wheat. In Russian, it is possible to translate as a "chaff bridge", but there is no single exact translation, alas. Instead, there is a second name - "mill bridge". It is due to the fact that on a small island on the right side there were mills earlier.

History and features of the place

In the XIII century, the bridge was the road from Mill Square to those same mills on the islet. In 1408 he was brought to the left bank, and by 1568 a chapel was added to it, consecrated in memory of the Theotokos. In the XVI century, Sproierbrücke suffered greatly from the flood, but it was completely restored.

Today under the pediments of Szproyerbrück in Switzerland there are 67 triangular paintings. All of them were written in the XVII century by the same author, Kaspar Melinger, on one motive, which is called "Dance of Death." Allegorical medieval plot was created to demonstrate the frailty of human existence and the inevitability of death, regardless of wealth and position in society. The pictures complement the hopeful Muller poetry on the same theme: "Everything that lives, flies, creeps, floats, runs or disappears, always fears death, there is hardly a place on the whole earth where it does not keep up." These words say that every person on the Earth, whether he is a prince or a beggar, a scientist or a musician, beautiful or not, is forced to obey the rules of death, and nobody has ever managed to avoid this process, and hardly ever succeeds.

The bridge bridge has a historical, cultural and architectural value. Be sure to visit this place, being in Lucerne, the real heart of beautiful Switzerland.
