The vegetative mode of reproduction of barberry is one of the most effective. It is suitable for almost all types of shrubs, with the exception of barberry barley. The preparatory stage of reproduction of barberry by cuttings is best done in the summer. Cuttings should be cut at the end of July - early August. Use only clean and sharp tools (for example, a knife, pruner or scissors). For reproduction of barberry by cuttings select annual shoots. Cut the cuttings from the middle part of the shoot length of 8-10 cm. The best option - if on each cut will be two or three knots with leaves. The lower cut of each shoot should be made at an angle of 45 °, and the top one - horizontally.

When propagating cuttings of barberry ordinary you can immediately make a landing for rooting. Cuttings of other shrub species (whole, coin, Canadian) are best placed in special solutions that improve survival rates - Kornevin, Fiton.

Then prepare the boxes with a peat-sand mixture, then you need to put the prepared cuttings. They are inserted into the soil at a slope of 45 ° in rows in such a way that the distance between the rows is 10 cm, and between the cuttings - 5 cm. Rooting the cuttings of barberry will be successful if placed in conditions with high humidity and air temperature, that is in the greenhouse. Do not forget about timely watering, spraying and airing cuttings.

Planting of young plants

Unfortunately, barberry cuttings take root for a long time. Transplantation for a permanent time is best done after 1-2 years. The optimal time for planting barberry by cuttings is autumn or spring. Pits for planting are recommended to dig about 40 cm deep and 50 cm in diameter. At the bottom of the pit, you need to place a mixture of soil with humus or organic fertilizers, and this mixture must then be poured. After planting the seedlings, the ground around them is trampled, again watered and mulched with peat, humus or sawdust.
