The distinctive characteristic of the Boerboel breed is dark ears, as well as a black mask on the dog's face. The tail, and sometimes the ears, are cut off. The lifespan of the Boerboel is on the average 10-12 years with proper maintenance conditions.

Boerboel is a guard dog.
