Boerboel - description of the breed

The breed of Boerboel dogs originates from South Africa, but its external similarity with many European breeds suggests that the predecessors of these dogs were imported to South Africa from the European continent and already mixed with local on the spot, which gave a distinctive appearance and character traits rocks.

Appearance

The description of the Boerboel breed should begin with an examination of the appearance of its typical representative. These are quite large dogs of the Mastiff type . They have a well-developed, muscular body. The height at the withers in an adult male is 65-70 cm, in the bitch - 59-65 cm. Boerboel has muscular, strong legs. Despite the big weight (up to 90 kg) the dog is quite plastic and jumpy, very hardy. The head of the Boerboel is large enough, the ears are hanging. The dog's body is covered with short, dense, tough hair . The color can vary from light to dark brown. The distinctive characteristic of the Boerboel breed is dark ears, as well as a black mask on the dog's face. The tail, and sometimes the ears, are cut off. The lifespan of the Boerboel is on the average 10-12 years with proper maintenance conditions.

Character Boerboel

Boerboel is a guard dog. There are cases when in South Africa these dogs were left alone in the village with young children, and they protected them from predators while the adult part of the population was on the hunt. Burbulis were also often used as hunting dogs. They are very devoted to the owner, but also from him they expect constant attention and affection.
