A dog with eyes falling out

However strange it may sound, but when asked if dogs have eyes, experts say yes: it happens. Fortunately, this is not too common phenomenon and it should not be feared by all owners of pedigreed quadrupeds.

Veterinarians know which dogs fall out most often - from Pekingese and Japanese chin. This is explained by the features of the anatomy of the head of dogs of these breeds: they have too small eye cavities, and the eyes are held in place for only centuries.

Causes of the phenomenon

Those who have encountered this problem or heard of it, are interested in why dogs drop eyes and how dangerous it is. First of all, this happens due to injuries. Pekingese and Japanese chin are not fighters at all, so the dog has more of them, that is, in fact, any one, can cause them serious injury. Even a relatively harmless injury in the eye area can cause serious harm to these dogs. Due to the fact that their eyes are not deep-seated, as, for example, in shar pei, mastiffs or chow-chow, even a slight pressure on the eye area and rupture of the tissue can lead to the loss of the eyeball.

Another common cause is some severe diseases, accompanied by deformation or weakening of the eye muscles.

Treatment

Eyes - this is so finely arranged mechanism and so important function in the animal's body that self-treatment is inappropriate here. So, if a misfortune happened to the four-legged pet, you should immediately take it to a vet clinic. On the spot, you can only provide emergency assistance. Dropped eyeball should be carefully lubricated with ophthalmic ointment and put cold around the area to prevent the development of edema.
