Narcissus - transplantation

Breeding daffodils is a very popular activity among florists. His popularity is explained very simply - this flower combines beauty, variety of varieties, ease of reproduction and unpretentiousness.

In this article, we will tell you about the ways and time of daffodil transplantation, and also try to figure out whether it is possible to transplant flowering daffodils.

When can you transfer daffodils?

Despite the fact that the daffodils multiply quickly enough (after planting only one onion, in a year you will receive a bush with 4-6 flowers), it is better to follow the generally accepted rules when transplanting.

It is advisable to transplant the plants regularly: every three to five years. Of course, these terms are very conditional, because with good care and a favorable environment, the daffodils can grow very much, as a result of which the landing significantly thickens. To determine when it is best to transplant the daffodils, carefully inspect the flower bed. The following signs indicate the need for transplantation:

  1. Deterioration of quality of flowers (grinding, rare flowers).
  2. Noticeable growth of old bushes, thickening of planting.

It happens that the flowers are initially planted too tightly. A flower bed in this case may look thickened, but it is not desirable to transplant the flowers before three years after planting. Young bulbs-babies will not have time to fully form before this date, even if they bloom for the first or second year.

Daffodil transplant in autumn

The laying of new roots in daffodils occurs in August. During this period it is very important to monitor the moisture of the soil and not let the flowers dry out during drying. Transplantation of daffodils in the autumn usually gives fine results, but for its successful carrying out it is necessary to plant bulbs not later than the first ten days of September.

Preparation for transplantation should be as fast as possible - as soon as the leaves of the plants turn yellow and fall, immediately dig up the bulbs. Dry them (not long), remove the damaged, sick and weak tubers, disinfect to a dark solution of potassium permanganate (30-45 minutes). We divide by sorts, and rooted (do not tighten with rooting, otherwise the tubers will lose their old strong and elastic roots - which means that the bloom next year will not be so abundant). If you can not immediately plant flowers, fold the bulbs into small boxes and store them in a dry, ventilated room at a temperature of about + 17 ° C. But if you still dried the tubers and the old roots have disappeared, do not get upset - like most bulbous ones, daffodils are able to survive even if they completely lose their roots. Of course, only if the bulb itself is not completely dried.

Depending on the soil, the depth of planting the bulbs can vary from 12 to 17 cm. The heavier the soil, the less tubers should be buried. Children deepen to a depth of 10 cm. The distance between bulbs is 10-12 cm. With a rarer planting, the number of "children" increases.

After planting, the bed is covered with peat, pine needles, sawdust or leaves (birch, oak or any other). The thickness of the cover layer is 20-25 cm. In the spring the shelter is removed.

Transplanting daffodils in the spring

The spring daffodil transplantation is considerably inferior to the autumn one. If you can not plant the tubers in the fall, you can do it very early in the spring. On average, the formation of the root system of narcissuses takes about 25 days.

The method of planting in spring fully corresponds to the "autumn" method described above. Do not forget to prepare the site in advance - dig up, you can make fertilizers already in the autumn.

In extreme cases, even flowering individuals can be transplanted. Of course, in this case, the flowers will fade, and the leaves will turn yellow and slush. Most likely, next year the plant will also not bloom, but in the future nothing will differ from the narcissi, transplanted in the usual way.

Now that you know how to transplant the daffodils in the spring and autumn, you can always decorate your garden with these adorable flowers.
