History of the Church
If you focus on graffiti on the frescoes of this church, you can say that it was built in 1295 by a man named Progon Zgur, who was a relative of the Byzantine emperor Andronik II of Palaeologus. This was a difficult time for the Balkans. The Ottoman Turks, who conquered the lands here, gradually began to turn the Christian churches into mosques. Fortunately, some religious buildings in Macedonia managed to avoid such a fate. And while the Church of St. Sophia was used as a mosque, the Church of the Blessed Virgin was a cathedral.
Features of the church
Outwardly, the church is a cross-domed temple, not covered with plaster. Two limits were added to it later, and they are quite different from the main building. Interest is not only the appearance of the church, but also features of its interior. Here you will be lucky enough to see the frescoes of the 13th century.
The church is currently used both as a functioning temple and as a museum in which a large number of Ohrid icons are collected. However, it's likely that you will not be able to successfully photograph the church building because of the abundance of trees around the building and nearby buildings.

You can get to Ohrid by plane or by bus, for example, from the capital of Macedonia - the city of Skopje. The church itself is located just below the Upper Gates or Port Gorn. To reach it easily from anywhere in the city.
