Volcano Ankaratra

Volcanic activity occurred during the Miocene-Holocene epoch, as a result of which tectonic lakes and hot springs were formed here.

The last time the Strombolian eruption occurred in the south of the complex. As a result, a number of slag cones appeared, as well as several large craters, which later turned into maars. At the end of the twentieth century on Ankaratra at a depth of 15 to 28 km there were several earthquakes of magnitude to 5.5 points.
