On the knee joints a significant part of the load falls during the movement. In addition, it is this part of the human musculoskeletal system that most often suffers with trauma and is defeated by age-related changes.
Pain in the knee joint during walking can signal the development of diseases or be a symptom of pathological conditions. Let's note, what violations in the knee apparatus cause the pain, and how to distinguish the joint diseases by the nature of pain and other signs.
Acute pain
Acute pain in the knee joint during walking is most common for traumatic tissue damage. As a result of falling, overload, etc. the following knee injuries can be obtained:
- deformity or fracture of the calyx;
- dislocation of the knee joint ;
- tension, rupture of tendons and ligaments;
- rupture of meniscuses (articular discs).
Especially worth noting is the dislocation of the patella. Such a trauma threatens lovers of high heels. Sharp pain in the knee joint during walking in this case occurs suddenly and external manifestations are absent.
Often the injury involves several knee injuries at the same time.
Chronic pain
The cause of persistent pain in the knee ligament are diseases associated with inflammation and deformation of tissues. In this case, the progressive nature of the disease is most often noted: if at the initial stages the pain is quite tolerable, then as the ailment develops the patient feels an ever stronger pain in the knee joint when walking.
Pain sensations are typical for the following diseases:
- arthritis - inflammation of bone tissue;
- arthrosis - dystrophic changes of articular tissues and cartilage;
- bursitis - inflammation of the joint bag;
- Baker's cysts - the formation that occurs at the bottom of the inside of the knee in people who are overweight;
- osteomyelitis - an inflammatory process in the bones of bacterial etiology;
- osteochondritis - gradual withering of the knee cartilage.
There are other pathologies of the knee joint. A trauma doctor or orthopedist will identify the cause of pain in the knee joint while walking and will prescribe the appropriate treatment.
