Garlic turns yellow - why pour?

Everyone knows that this culture is planted in both spring and winter. We will not consider the difference between planting material, but it should be noted that yellowing problems are typical for winter garlic. Consider how you can water garlic so that it does not turn yellow, and the causes of these troubles.

What to water the winter garlic, if it turns yellow?

To answer this question, you need to first know the period when it turns yellow, and even better to consider the garlic and the yellowing character on the bed, and only then look for than pour. We will now look for the sources of the problem:

  1. Most likely the root of the problem lies in the very soil, no matter how ridiculous it may sound. More precisely, it concerns the composition of the soil. Not everyone knows that potassium and nitrogen are related to different substances, but they are closely related. It is on the amount of potassium will depend on the degree of absorption of nitrogen, as well as phosphorus. Before you look, than pour, consider how the garlic turns yellow. We saw small reddening, a thin border around the perimeter of the foliage - all this signal about the shortage of nitrogen and potassium. So, suppose you have little nitrogen in the soil and winter garlic turns yellow with marginal burns: there are two options than watering the planting. It will be either organic or mineral additives. But do not immediately fall into the fashionable organic flow, as in fact the composition and active ingredients in both top dressings will be approximately the same. The real difference is only in concentration. So, what can help in this situation, so that the garlic does not turn yellow: between the beds we pour fertilizers, then we need to pour all the water abundantly. We will scatter either complex fertilizers or urea with carbamides. Some gardeners prefer to prepare the solution first, and then introduce additional fertilizing in the soil. But both options have two rules: do all the work you need in the spring, and strictly follow all recommendations on the package. Here the formula "more = better" does not work.
  2. Now consider the situation, when garlic turns yellow when there is a shortage of potassium, and why it is better to sprinkle it than to pour it. All activities with a lack of potassium are carried out at the very beginning of planting, then the problem will be solved with the best outcome. Prepare potassium chloride according to dosage, they need only sprinkle the greens above the soil. Solutions with wood ash are also good.
  3. Often, garlic turns yellow as a result of freezing, and the most suitable way to pour it in this situation is a solution of the drug to increase resistance to cold weather.
  4. When problems of this kind begin, we try to find an optimal and simple solution. But it is much easier to prevent these difficulties. It is very important to water the planting properly and observe a very fine line: garlic responds equally poorly to both too dry and excessively wet soil. It is difficult to give recommendations on this topic, because in each region the spring is different and in one place it is constantly wet and damp weather, and in another already from the beginning of April it is quite dry and even hot. But anyway, and the excess moisture will be much worse on your crop. Therefore, the easiest way to observe a simple rule: after watering, you need to loosen row spacing, then mulch planting. Then the soil will breathe, and the moisture will not so quickly evaporate. Then yellowing due to improper water balance you are not afraid.
  5. And finally, the most unpleasant reason is fusariosis. Unfortunately, watering, sprinkling, or processing here already does not work. More often this problem concerns inhabitants of southern warm regions, since there are ideal conditions for fusariosis. Therefore, before planting, it is necessary to process the planting material and the soil with potassium permanganate.
