The history of the Stremmsholm Palace is interesting:

  1. In the middle of the 16th century, King Gustav Vasa, ruling then Sweden , was ordered to lay a fortification on a small island . For him, a place was chosen on the Kolbekkson River, which flows into Lake Mälaren .
  2. In the second half of the XVII century on the site of the fortification was erected the Castle of Strommsholm, intended for Queen Hedwig Eleanor. The building's drawings were created by Nicodemus Tessin the eldest. At the same time around the palace was laid a park in the Baroque style.
  3. In 1766 the future Swedish King Gustav III was married to the princess Sophia Magdalena. The Swedish parliament presented the bride to the Stremmsholm Palace as a wedding present. Later, the architect Carl Fredrik Adelkrantz carried out large-scale work on the decoration of the building.
  4. From 1868 to 1968 years. In the palace was the Army School of Riding. At the end of the 20th century, the palace facade was restored and the roof covered with sheet iron.
  5. In the 90s of the last century the castle building was once again restored and transferred to the State Property Management of Sweden.
