Museum Colonial Cottage


Do not you believe that it's realistic to travel through time? And this is possible only when you cross the threshold of the museum "Colonial Cottage". The atmosphere that is inside this landmark, every guest brings to the 19th century.

What to see?

It will not be superfluous to note that the museum was created by the descendants of William Wallace, although not the one who lived in the 13th century. Arriving in New Zealand from the UK in search of a better life, Sir Wallace, together with his wife, the charming Katerina, in 1858 built a cottage in which his descendants lived until the late 1970s.

Today the "Colonial Cottage" is a museum, the exposition of which consists of historical exhibits, the main task of which is to tell about the life of the colonists. There are original furniture, unique dishes, children's toys and much more that belongs to the Wallace family. Going into the house, it creates the feeling that you were invited to visit, and the hosts will come up with a minute.

The kitchen of the Wallace house deserves special attention. It is she who represents the whole epoch when there were no modern devices, and therefore the keepers of the home had to do everything manually.

It is impossible not to admire the stunning fruit garden, which is broken around the cottage. Moreover, there are flower beds, the fragrance of which fascinates, and vegetable beds. On the territory of the museum there is a small shop where everyone can buy natural products: fruit and vegetable canned food, created from fruits from the Wallace kitchen garden.
