Mom of every thirtieth newborn girl faces a problem that is visible to the naked eye - the baby has small labia mixed with large. This phenomenon is called a synechia. According to most physiologists, the cause of small lips' fusion in girls are any inflammation, low levels of estrogen, lack of hygiene. The diagnosis is made by the doctor, relying only on the results of the examination. It is noteworthy that the synechiae are asymptomatic. In rare cases, the cohesion is accompanied by vulvovaginitis or infection of the genitourinary system.
Treatment of synechia
If the fused small lips are found in the baby, then treatment is usually not required. Normal hygiene, constant monitoring and observation - and after a few months the connecting film disappears. With extensive adhesion, which causes difficulties with the outflow of urine and inflammatory processes, prescribe treatment with estrogen containing creams or ointments. During the first two weeks, the ointment is gently applied with a finger to the labia along the gluing line twice a day. The next two weeks are once a day. In most cases, a month later the synechia disappears.
Surgical separation is indicated only with significant adhesion and insensitivity to estragenotherapy. Techniques for the separation of the labia are somewhat, they are selected individually. The operation is painless and does not pose a danger to the child. Relapses occur in every third case, so it is important to use softening ointments after separation and follow the rules of hygiene.

When fusing labia in a child, it is important to observe the following rules:
- properly wash the girl (front to back);
- use baby soap no more than twice a week;
- time to change diapers and underwear;
- use underwear (panties, sliders, bodiks) only from natural materials;
- after each urination, rinse the crotch with water or a napkin to remove residual moisture.
