Stone Forest

The wealth of Namibia is its nature. Exotic landscapes, where one day you can see the sand dunes that go into the ocean, and lush vegetation. Here, rare animals live and extract precious stones, and the local tribes retain their identity and the very first traditions. One of the wondrous places of Namibia is the Stone Forest.

Getting to know the attraction

The Petrified Forest is located in the wild desert of the Damartaland region, southwest of the town of Ochivarongo. In its boundaries are ancient petrified trees, frozen in this state about 250-300 million years ago, even on the ancient mainland of Gondwana.

In total, about fifty fossils "grow" in the Stone Forest, some of them reach a height of 30 m. Ancient trees have been preserved under layers of hot sand and stones, surprising tourists throughout the journey through this area.

The national reserve lies in the vicinity of Mount Brandberg - the highest point of Namibia (2606 m) - and is included in most group tourist routes. Photo of the Stone Forest, like other pictures of wild Africa, will entice you to come back here again and again.

How to get to the Stone Forest?

The National Forest of Kamenny Forest is located where practically no civilization exists. You can get to the Stone Forest from the nearest town of Ochivarongo, which is a transit point for visiting many national parks and surrounding areas. You can get there:
