Silvering of milk teeth

It is known that artificial feeding from a bottle, excessive consumption of sweet food or water, which contains sugar, can provoke a child's caries development. The standard treatment is to use a dental drill, and few of the children are comfortable with this procedure. But for the preservation of milk teeth, it is necessary to prevent the development of caries. One of the effective methods of prevention and treatment of caries in children is the silvering of the milk teeth - a special coating of the tooth surface, on which only the first signs of caries appeared. Another indication for silvering teeth in children is the underdevelopment of tooth enamel.

How are the children's teeth silver?

In the recent past for silvering teeth a 30% solution of silver nitrate was used. However, it was observed that this solution penetrates too deeply into the tooth and damages the pulp. In modern pediatric dentistry, new preparations are used for silvering of baby teeth, which besides silver include fluoride, which is necessary for strengthening tooth enamel. On the damaged teeth, thoroughly cleaned from plaque, a solution of silver nitrate is applied with a tampon. As a result, a protective silver film of insoluble salts is formed on the surface of the tooth, which stops the destruction of the tooth and kills all the bacteria. This procedure will be absolutely painless for your child. But, unfortunately, the smile of your baby after silvering will become less attractive, since the film that covers all the teeth has the property to darken and the tooth becomes black. In this regard, silvering of baby teeth is most often used on chewing, and not on the front teeth. The age in which it is expedient to carry out this procedure for the prevention and treatment of caries is 2.5 to 3 years. In the older age with the child, you can agree and conduct more adequate treatment. It should be noted that the main task in the silvering of children's teeth is to slow the development of caries, but not completely cure it completely. Thus, this method of treatment is a temporary procedure that must be repeated every month.

It is not necessary, the described procedure of silvering of teeth to conduct at home. This, in the first place, is dangerous for the health of your baby. It is better to study the diet of the child, exclude sweets from it and get help from a specialist.

Alternative to silvering teeth

Today, more and more often, instead of silvering, with minor tooth lesions, remineralizing therapy has begun to be used. This is a method of caries treatment, in which the teeth are covered with special pastes and liquids. Due to this, the enamel crystal lattice is closed, and the teeth are saturated with fluorine, calcium and phosphorus, which allows to stop the development of the disease. Ozonation is considered the newest technique among the treatment of infant teeth. In this case, the teeth are amenable to ozone treatment. With this method, as in the case of silvering of milk teeth, the process of tooth decay is suspended, and it also helps to get rid of pathogenic microorganisms. Another way to prevent and treat caries, which you want to imagine, is sealing the fesur. This method consists in applying a glass-like substance to the chewing surface of the tooth, resulting in a reliable protection against damage.

To avoid such problems, do not forget to properly care for the teeth and mouth of your baby. And the main thing in the prevention of dental diseases in children is a regular visit to a children's dentist.
