Today gardeners are offered a huge selection of its varieties, differing in terms of maturation, size, color and shape of the fruit, as well as taste.

In the article you will learn about a very piquant red pepper variety "Bell".

Pepper "Bell": description

This variety, belonging to the rare exotic species of berry pepper, has been known for a long time and is very popular in South America. The plant itself is sprawling and tall, with early sowing and good care reaches up to 2 m in height by the end of the season and differs from others with its pubescent stems and leaves, as well as the unusual shape and taste of the fruit.

Growing peppers in their form resemble a small red bell flower, due to which it received its name. The variety is late-ripening with a yield of up to 1.5 kg from the plant. Fruits weighing 30-60 grams, can reach up to 100 grams, are located singly. The taste of the pulp is sweet-sharp: the walls in the area of attachment to the peduncle have a sharp bitter taste, and the lower part of the fruit, similar to the small patisson, is piquant sweet and sour. Thus, the popularity and uniqueness of the bell pepper "Bell" is a combination of a bitter and sweet taste at the same time.

The fruits of this pepper are excellent for canning whole and use in fresh form for the preparation of salads and meat dishes.

Pepper "Bell": cultivation

It can be grown both in tubs and in the open ground .

Seeds of red pepper "Bell" are not very common, they were previously produced by the firm "Gavrish" for 15 pieces per package, but now you can find it for horticulturists who grow this variety and sell seeds.

The basic principles of cultivation and care of pepper of this grade are the same as for Bulgarian pepper.

Since 140-150 days pass from the shoots to the fruiting, seed sowing should be carried out in the middle of February. Plant in a container, puncture the bottom and fill with ground mixture with the addition of wood ash to 2/3 of the volume. For germination and active growth of seedlings, a temperature of + 20-23 ° C is required. If shoots are thickened, then they are planted after the appearance of two real sheets in separate glasses, trying not to disturb the roots and not shortening the central spine. Watering is moderate. On warm days the seedlings are tempered outdoors.

Plant pepper in the evening at a distance of 40 cm between plants on a sunny and sheltered from the wind place. In the wells, add the ash and pour 1% solution of potassium permanganate. The peppers are mulched. Obligatory rules for the care of planting are watering only with warm water, regular loosening of the soil and fertilization: 2 weeks after planting - by the mullein , during flowering - with ash solution, after 3 weeks - with fertilizers containing calcium and potassium.

Distinctions of care of peppers of a variety "Bell" are only at a stage of formation of a bush. In a flowering plant, it is necessary to pinch all lateral shoots below the first formed ovary, and then only vertically located stepsons are removed. The bush is left to branch freely. 6 weeks before the end of the season, all growing shoots are plucked.

While the fruit is green, then it is sweet when it turns red - in it the sharpness is sharp and the aroma is intensified. Green peppers ripen to red within a week. The plant fructifies to frost. It's a pity to clean such a smart bush with bright fruits of green, orange and red.

Since pepper is a perennial plant, it can be transplanted into a large pot at the end of the summer and placed in a warm room to ripen the crop. Then, when the harvest is collected, and the bush discards the leaves, you can put it in a cool place for a couple of months. In the spring it will begin to grow again and, after the termination of frosts, it can be landed back into the ground.

Such beautiful and spicy peppers pleasantly diversify the table in the summer-autumn period and will please the winter.
