Perioral dermatitis

Perioral dermatitis is a fairly rare disease, with which women, aged between 20 and 40 years old, are mostly confronted. For this pathology, the appearance on the skin around the mouth of the peculiar rashes, which can also sometimes be localized in the nasolabial folds, on the cheeks, near the eyes, on the nose and temples. In severe cases, the skin of the entire face is affected.

Symptoms of perioral dermatitis

Eruptions of perioral dermatitis look like single or grouped pustules or nodules of a spherical shape reminiscent of acne. These formations are noted against normal or hyperemic skin. In this case, the color of the skin and rash can change along the course of the disease: first the lesions are pinkish-red, then acquire a bluish or brownish tinge.

Pustules can be resolved and leave behind crusts, premature removal of which causes the appearance of hyperpigmentation. Rashes in some cases can be accompanied by a feeling of tightness of the skin, itching and burning, in other cases, there may not be such uncomfortable sensations.

How to treat perioral dermatitis?

Oral dermatitis is one of the hard-to-treat diseases that require long-term systemic therapy. This adversely affects the psychological state of patients: there is irritability, depression, insecurity. An effective drug for perioral dermatitis is Metrogil gel, the active ingredient of which is metronidazole. The agent has bactericidal and bacteriostatic properties in relation to a large number of pathogens of skin infections.
