Treatment of boils at home

Very many people at least once in their life had to face the appearance of a furuncle on the skin. The most common area of localization of boils is the face, back, neck, groin area, axillary hollows and buttocks. Furuncles can be either very small, or reach a very impressive size.

What are the furuncles?

The main reason for the appearance of boils is the ingress of a bacterial infection into the hair follicle or sebaceous gland, causing the skin around this place to first redden, and then inflames and forms a compaction with pus inside. The causative agent of inflammation is often staphylococcal or streptococcal infection.

Furuncles can occur due to various mechanical damages to the skin, such as acne complications and various dermatitis, or with poor personal hygiene, especially in places where the hair is present.

The main symptoms of a furuncle is a strong, slightly throbbing pain in the site of inflammation and the presence of a so-called purulent "rod." In especially severe cases, there may be an increase in body temperature and general weakness.

How to get rid of a boil with folk remedies?

Treatment of boils at home is possible only if there are no systemic manifestations of inflammation in the form of fever and weakness, and the size of the furuncle does not exceed 3-5 cm. Also, home treatment is unacceptable for young children and people who have recently had any infectious diseases or surgical interventions.

To date, you can describe many different ways to treat boils, folk remedies, but we will only consider the safest and most effective of them:

  1. At the initial stages of development of the boil, tea tree oil can quite help, several drops of which must be dissolved in any fat base oil (olive, corn, grape seed oil, etc.), apply this mixture on a piece of bandage, attach it to the boil and reliably, but not too tightly fixed with a gauze bandage or plaster. Do such lotions best for the night or leave at least 10 hours. If this does not help, then you should use other methods of treatment of boils at home.
  2. A very affordable remedy for boils is the application of cabbage leaf with honey cake, which perfectly pulls pus out and quickly removes inflammation of the tissues. To prepare a similar cake, mix honey with flour, knead carefully, roll the ball, and then "flatten" it to get the shape of a pancake. For this purpose, any honey of medium density is suitable, but flour is best taken from rye.
  3. Another effective folk method for getting rid of boils is to apply the baked onion, wrapping the place of the compress with special paper and wrapping not only with a bandage, but also with a warm scarf or a piece of any warm cloth to create a warming effect.

When is it necessary to remove the boil?

If all home remedies for 5-6 days do not give any effect and the pus from the boil does not come out, and the diameter of the inflammation continues to increase, then you should try to treat the boil with ointments, sold in the pharmacy. The most effective is Vishnevsky ointment and ichthyol ointment for boils that need to be applied to the site of inflammation for 12-15 hours for 3-5 days.

If this did not help, then you should contact a surgeon who can prescribe the treatment of a furuncle with antibiotics according to an enhanced regimen. Typically, this treatment helps quickly get rid of the boil, but if it does not work, then, most likely, it will be necessary to remove the furuncle surgically.

To be afraid of removal or antibiotic therapy it is not necessary, however all over again nevertheless it is necessary to try to apply national methods of treatment of a furuncle in house conditions.
