Island of Corsica

The island of Corsica, covered with legends and sung in literary works, is located in the Mediterranean Sea. Despite belonging to France, there was formed a unique atmosphere, its own dialect and mentality. And they live on the island, not French, but Corsicans. It is here more than two centuries ago Napoleon was born. Until the XVIII century Corsica was under the rule of the Romans, Spaniards, Byzantines, Genoese and the British. And the first settlement here arose much earlier - over 9 thousand years ago.

Rest on Corsica is not only different from the level of hotel comfort, clean beaches and lots of attractions. Fantastic beauty of natural landscapes for the first time visited tourists in these parts remind Europe in miniature. Mountains and plains, forests and lakes, bays and beaches look as if civilization has bypassed these edges by the side. Tours to Corsica are very popular due to the fact that the cultural heritage is extremely rich, and nature is amazing. Tourists are given the opportunity to stroll through prehistoric villages, visit medieval castles erected on rocks. After relaxing on the beach or if the weather in Corsica has deteriorated, which is extremely rare, you can go horseback riding, cycling or hiking, golf, scuba diving or canoeing.

Resort towns

The capital of Corsica is the resort town of Ajaccio. Almost all local attractions remind tourists that here was born and spent the first nine years of life Napoleon Bonaparte. Here is preserved the cathedral, where he entered the cross, his residence, statues, works a museum. At the foot of Mount Kap Kors there is a Genoese bastion of Bastia, and on the Saint-Nicolas Square there is a huge monument to the great commander.

And, of course, Ajaccio is the city of Corsica, where the entire coast is dotted with numerous beaches. They are rather narrow and very crowded, but it does not bother the holidaymakers.

If you want to stay at a hotel that has its own beach, you should go to Porticcio (Bonifacio town). In this city, all the beaches are sandy, and the weather is always pleased with the abundance of the sun. By the way, it was in Bonifacio that Odysseus stayed, according to the legend.

In the town of Calvi, you can walk along the wide picturesque promenade, visit the ancient Roman citadel, and in Propriano - magnificent beaches, colorful restaurants. If you decide to spend a vacation in Porto-Vecchio, be sure to visit the Old Town, the town hall, the old port and the temple of John the Baptist.

Transport infrastructure

Despite its relatively small size, Corsica has four airports and a ferry connection. The main airport of Corsica is Campo del Oro, which is 8 kilometers from Ajaccio. Airports "Figari", "Bastia-Poretta" and "Calvi-Saint-Catherine" are located in Porto-Vecchia, Bastia and Calvi, respectively.

But the plane is not the only way to get to Corsica. Here ferries also run. You can get to Corsica by ferry from France (from Toulon, Nice, Marseilles), and from Italy (from Naples , Savona, Livorno, Genoa and Santa Teresa Gallura). Depending on the place of departure and the type of vessel, on the road you will spend 3 to 12 hours. The ferry ticket will cost at least 50 euros, and you can order it on the Internet or buy in the port at departure.

The holiday spent on this wonderful island will remain forever in my memory. More than once you want to breathe in this air again, feel the tender rays of the sun on the body and enjoy the coolness of the crystal clear sea.
