Paper and cardboard models

Making models of paper and cardboard is quite an exciting activity, which only at first glance seems simple and easy. In fact, to glue together one model, it is sometimes necessary to spend more than one day. Not everyone is able to do this, because to produce a model of cardboard, you need to have certain skills.

How are models made of paper and cardboard made?

It all begins with the selection of the model of the future model. In this case, the following types of models are distinguished, which can be made from paper:

The simplest of the listed are the teams. The method of their manufacture consists in collecting already pre-made parts, i.e. sometimes even gluing is not required. Prefabricated carton models are suitable for pre-school children who can assemble them themselves. Cut out the existing patterns of the model on the contour, and bending it around the points marked with dashed lines, we get the finished product. The resulting model can be decorated using colors, gouache. The applied layer is covered with a varnish which will allow to serve models as long as possible.

The volumetric models from a cardboard are made on more difficult technology. Here, children can not do without the help of adults. The basic elements of such constructions are cones and cylinders. Their cross-section can be square, rectangular (for modeling buildings), and also oval (for manufacturing, for example, a fuselage of an airplane). Therefore, before you make a model of this technology, you need to practice in gluing together its individual elements.

The most difficult for children are 3d models of paper. When assembling them, a large number of individual elements are glued together, which are made in advance, according to the patterns available. Usually thick paper or thin cardboard is used, tk. It is required to make many bends and folds.

What do you need to learn before designing models from cardboard?

Before you start modeling paper and cardboard, you need to master several techniques. The main ones are:

The most difficult to master is molding and folding. The latter consists in the designation of cutting or bending lines. It should be remembered that many lines should be represented in a mirror location. Often, because of the error of novice modelers, the carved model can not be glued together, because bending angles are incorrect.

Begin to make models for gluing better from thick paper. This material is more pliable, and costs less than cardboard. After selecting the layout you like, transfer it to the sheet using tracing paper, or through the glass, highlighting the layout from below with a lamp. Before you start cutting, carefully check that all lines have been transferred to the workpiece. Only after this it is possible to start making blanks. Also, it's worth remembering that all the lines of the cut are depicted on the mock-ups with a dotted line. On the solid can only be bent, but not sharp.

Thus, making models for gluing from cardboard is a rather difficult task. In most cases, it is beyond the power of small children. Therefore, usually the manufacture of such models can not do without the participation of adults, whose function is not only to provide the necessary assistance in cutting and gluing, but also to monitor the safety of working with piercing objects. Therefore, if your child is already an adult (see other articles made from paper for a schoolboy ) and is used to doing everything yourself, still keep an eye on his work.
