The hip joint connects the lower limb with the trunk, connecting the pelvic bones and hips. Considerable freedom of movement of the leg is provided by:
- special (hinged) structure of the hip joint;
- plastic cartilaginous tissue, which is covered with components of the joint;
- synovial fluid that feeds the cartilaginous tissue and facilitates the free sliding of articular surfaces.
Indications for hip arthroplasty
As a result of a number of diseases (arthritis, arthrosis, rheumatism , etc.) and injuries, joint deformation occurs, which can lead to the destruction of bone-cartilaginous tissue in the future. At the same time, a person experiences severe pain when walking, the intensity of his movements decreases and the distance he can overcome decreases.
Types of Hip Joint Prosthetics
Modifications of endoprostheses are quite numerous, but there are two ways to perform the operation:
- single-pole endoprosthetics, in which only the head of the bone is replaced;
- total hip arthroplasty - complete implantation with replacement of the head and cavity.
Period after arthroplasty of the hip joint
Regardless of the method of operation, the patient is in the hospital for 10-12 days. Therapy in the post-operation period involves the use of antibiotics and pain medications. At the same time, experts make efforts to prevent the development of complications after hip arthroplasty. In this case, postoperative consequences are possible:
- inflammation of the tissue in the wound near the prosthesis;
- blockage of veins by blood clots;
- enlarged bony growths;
- bone fracture in the implant placement area.
Pain relief after hip arthroplasty and swelling of the extremity always signal an inflammatory process that developed after implantation.
Exercises after hip arthroplasty
The rehabilitation period after endoprosthetics is more successful, providing a certain load on the operated limb. Already on the second day the patient can sit down on the bed, do breathing exercises, perform simple static movements with his feet. On the third day the patient can walk a little. It is possible to move with support on crutches, a stick or in a walker.
After discharge from the hospital, a hip replacement with a hip replacement is recommended a special course of physiotherapy to strengthen the hip muscles. At the 2nd month after hip replacement, LPC is usually prescribed with a progressive increase in physical activity and a massage to improve blood circulation in the leg undergoing surgery. Having consulted with an expert, you can engage in individual sports (swimming, skiing, jogging).
Sex is possible 1.5-2 months after hip replacement. This is the time it takes to heal the muscles and ligaments around the joint.
Revision endoprosthetics of the hip joint
Revision (repeated) surgical intervention is required if the implant has become unusable and its replacement is necessary. Special care requires repeated endoprosthetics in the destruction of bone tissue in the area of fixation and infection of the prosthesis. The patient, who underwent revision surgery, is observed for a long time at the doctor, undergoing examinations and diagnostic studies, and the rehabilitation process can last for a year.
