Budlei - landing and care in the open ground

The bush bud is known for its ability to bloom in autumn, when for most plants the flowering period is already over. That's why I'm called "autumn lilac".

Inflorescences budlei, depending on the variety, come in different colors: lilac, white, lilac, yellow-orange, purple-red.

Also budleia is remarkable for its unique aroma, which attracts butterflies.

Care of the budlea and its reproduction

If you want a bush budleya for several years to please you with its appearance, you need to properly plant it and provide proper care.

For planting budlei in the garden suitable solar place, which is not penetrated by drafts and sheltered from the wind. The presence of a nearby fence or any high construction is welcome.

Planting budlei in two ways:

And, regardless of which way you choose, the landing will need to be carried out in several stages:

  1. At first I go to bed (seeds or cuttings) before planting at home. It happens in February. This is done later, so that by spring the seedlings were able to grow stronger and were prepared for disembarkation into the open ground.
  2. The sprouted seedlings are placed in separate cups.
  3. In April-May, when the earth is already sufficiently heated, the seedlings are planted in the open ground.
  4. In soil, the budlea grows to the first colds. Then, the annual plant is excavated and placed in special containers, which are recommended to be kept in a cool room, for example, in the basement.
  5. After the plant hibernated, in April-May it is again ready for planting in the open ground.

Leave for the winter in the soil can already adult plants that have reached the age of 2-3 years.

Care for the weekday for the winter

It should be noted that it is best to live in a hot climate, so it is preferable to grow it in southern regions, where the temperature does not drop below 10 ° C in winter. In a more severe winter climate, the ground part of the bush can completely freeze, only the roots remain.

But at the same time, if the plant still succeeds in successfully wintering, its roots are greatly expanded. New shoots grow to a height of 1.5-2 m and have time to bloom during the vegetative period.

The most frost-resistant is the Buddha of David . But there are varieties of budlea, for which freezing can be fatal. For example, in budlei, the alternate inflorescence dissolves on last year's shoots. Therefore, when the ground part freezes, its flowering is excluded. If the roots freeze, the plant dies.

In order for the budleigh to successfully hibernate, it is necessary to provide her with a thorough care before the onset of frost. Care consists primarily in timely watering, as well as in fertilizing the soil and feeding the plant. The plant prefers such fertilizers as ash, compost, phosphorus and potassium. In July, it is necessary to stop feeding the budlea so that she can prepare for the winter.

Adults 2-3 year old plants that remain to winter in the ground, must be properly concealed. For this purpose, a special frame is made of metal or wood. The frame is covered with a special material (lutrasil or spandond) and polyethylene, which excludes the penetration of water. Under the shelter are placed a warming layer: leaves, spruce lapnik, straw. This way of sheltering the plant allows to avoid its freezing in winter.

Proper care and careful preparation for the winter can significantly prolong the life of the bush and ensure its timely flowering. Thus, if you are willing to take the time-consuming care of the budlea, you can grow a plant in your garden that will create an amazing color composition that pleases the eye.
