Necrosis of the foot

Necrosis of the leg - gangrene - is a destructive process in which tissue cells die off. This problem is not a sight for the faint of heart. It can develop for various reasons. If the treatment is not properly treated, gangrene may appear on the background of serious injuries, thermal or chemical burns. But it also happens that necrosis occurs because of the invisible to the eye, the so-called internal factors.

Symptoms of foot necrosis

Surely you have heard that some patients with diabetes mellitus lose their fingers on the lower limbs, or even the entire foot, during the fight against the disease. Indeed, very often the gangrene of the legs precedes the cessation of the blood supply of this part of the body. And if you do not start treatment in time, the disease may well end with a leg amputation or even a fatal outcome.

Necrosis of the toe begins with pain. Unpleasant feelings very often even able to beat the patient out of the rut and immobilize. After a while, the loss of sensitivity and numbness of the limb is added to the symptom. Against this background there are often violations of the motor function.

How to treat foot necrosis?

It is important to understand that curing necrosis is very difficult. The process of combating the disease can take a long time. If gangrene is detected at an early stage of development, in theory, it is possible to cope with it using conservative methods. Physiotherapy procedures, exercises of physical therapy, massage are not bad. In some cases it is impossible to do without antibiotics and special anti-inflammatory drugs.

Treatment of advanced foot necrosis almost always begins with shunting or prosthetics. During both procedures, an artificial vessel is implanted into the affected limb, through which the blood supply of the affected tissue region resumes.

At the most severe stage of gangrene, the risk of intoxication is too high. The only real and effective way to prevent this phenomenon is to amputate the limb completely or part of it.
