What attracts the Marsabit National Park?

From the local dialect, it translates as a "cold mountain", which is very symbolic, given that the volcano has long been considered inoperative, and in its crater lies a system of lakes, mesmerizing with its beauty. Outwardly, the view of the park is more like a mountain, covered with a dense thicket of trees, which stretches in the middle of a deserted plain. Once Marsabit was part of a large ecosystem that included such reserves as Samburu , Shaba , Buffalo Spirngs and Losai, but over time it acquired the status of a separate national park.

The Marsabit National Park was founded in 1949. By its area it reaches more than 1500 square meters. km. Such vast territories provide shelter and food for many species of rare animals. However, in the first place this area is known as a huge bird sanctuary, and also because the largest population of zebras inhabits here. Forest tracts of an extinct volcano also attracted such animals as the impala antelope, baboons, giraffes, forest deer, African buffalo. Most often, they can be found near Lake Paradise, which is located in the crater of a volcano - this is where the animals come for watering.

The most common inhabitants of the park among the birds are Turako, sparrows and weavers. In addition, here you can find rare species of larks and griffins, buzzards, Somali ostriches. In total, in the Marsabit National Park there are more than 370 species of birds. In addition to the above advantages of this area, it is impossible not to mention one more feature - this is a huge number of colorful African butterflies that live here.

The expanses of the Marsabit National Park are huge and colorful, and it is not possible to get to know all its wonders and features in one day. For those who want to fully immerse themselves in the nature of an extinct volcano, there are several campsites on the territory of the park. The most colorful area is the area near Lake Paradise, next to which you can stay for the night.

Near Marsabit in Kenya is a small airport that serves domestic flights. In addition, you can get by bus to the nearest town of Isiolo, and there to rent a car.
