Mount Taba Bosiou

At 16 kilometers from Maseru , the capital of Lesotho , lies the mountain of Taba Bosiou. In addition to the fact that this place has extraordinary beauty, it is still an important historical site, where many important events took place.

The height of the mountain is 1804 meters, while its top is cut as if it were a plateau with an area of about two square kilometers. And this place was perfectly suited to the citadel of King Moshosho , who stood before the enemy's attacks for 40 years.

Taba-Bosiou - "Mountain of the Night"

"Taba-Bosiou" is translated as "mountain of night". Such a name was given not by chance, since the local belief says that the mountain grew overnight, thus complicating the task of the enemies who were trying to attack the settlement. And the rocks make this area impregnable, forming a kind of impregnable fortress, which in case of an attack could hide from the arrows all the population. The high walls were strong enough, and to get to the top of the mountain is not so simple, therefore King Mohsosh managed to keep the defense from the attack of Africans and Britons for decades. It was these events that made Mount Taba-Bashiu legendary. In addition, there remained the grave of an invincible ruler. He died in 1870, and since then his body is on the mountain, as if continuing to guard it.

On the mountain there were also the graves of the soldiers and the ruins of fortifications. During the excavations, archaeologists discovered many artifacts: everyday objects, religious attributes, weapons, and much more. All this is stored in the National Museum of Lesotho, which is located nearby. The tower of Kvilone was founded in 1824, therefore itself is the historical and architectural heritage of Lesotho.

Tour of Taba Bosiu is accompanied by stories and stories about the traditions of the local population and facts about the important period of these places, when the citadel was built and a difficult war period.
