Ljubljana Zoo

Ljubljana Zoo is located in the southern part of Tivoli Park , on the outskirts of the capital. The zoo is more like a reserve, as the cells and aviaries for animals are made as spacious and comfortable as possible. In addition, it is located in a forest-park zone, which approximates the habitat of animals to their natural conditions.

Description

Ljubljana Zoo occupies a relatively small area, only 20 hectares. They are inhabited by about 600 animals of 120 species, not counting insects, which are inhabitants of the Rojnik. Although the reserve is located amidst dense forests and meadows, it is only a 20-minute walk from the center of Ljubljana.

Zoo was founded in 1949. First, he was assigned a place in the center of the city, but two years later it was decided to move the park to the outskirts of the city. First of all, this was done in the interests of animals, and the perspective of development was taken into account - in the park zone it is much easier to increase the area of ​​the zoo than in the city.

In 2008, a major restoration began, during which the cells for animals were enlarged. Some of the pets have so wide aviaries that they do not even feel the boundaries. During the reconstruction, new animals entered the zoo:

Entertainment in Ljubljana Zoo

The capital's zoo attracts not by rare species of animals, but by its democracy. Visitors can observe animals practically in their natural environment. During a walk around the zoo you can visit the following places:

  1. Incubator with chicks .
  2. Territory of domestic animals .
  3. Representation with marine animals. Some "artists" are allowed to iron .
  4. A platform with a view of the giraffes and pelicans .

In summer, the Ljubljana Zoo is twice as interesting as at other times of the year, as every weekend in July and August there are recreational activities for children that are aimed at acquaintance with pets. The program includes games, competitions and excursions. Also in the zoo is an excursion "Photosafari", during which visitors visit places that are usually hidden from the eyes of the guests. Unfortunately, you can look "behind the scenes" of the zoo only once a year, but it's not worth missing such an event.

Ljubljana Zoo is open all year round. Due to the fact that it is surrounded by trees, bad weather here is much easier to bear. Therefore, it is pleasant to visit it even in the winter and autumn months. The reserve is open daily from 09:00 to 16:30.

How to get there?

Visit the Zoo in Ljubljana as part of an excursion around Ljubljana , but then you will have no more than 1.5 hours to inspect the reserve. If you want to fully enjoy the communication with animals, then you can use public transport. Near the zoo there is a bus station "Zivalski vrt", through which the route number 18 runs.
