Jonkoping Park

Jonkoping can not be called the most popular tourist city in Sweden , although there is certainly something to see: fresh air and breathtaking views of one of the largest lakes in the country, Vettern , do not leave any of the visiting travelers indifferent. This region is dotted with small streams, hilly valleys and fertile meadows. However, the main attraction of the region is not its amazing nature, but a unique open-air museum - Jönköpings Stadspark, which we will discuss in more detail below.

Historical facts

The main park of Jönköping is located in the central part of the city, on the hill of Dunk Hall, and is a huge complex with an area of 0.43 square meters. km. The construction of the park began in 1896 and lasted almost 6 years, and the official opening ceremony took place in 1902.

The idea of creating an open-air museum belongs to the famous Swedish engineer Algot Freiberg, who offered to transport to the Jönköping Park an old wooden church from the Middle Ages (Bäckaby gamla kyrka) as a valuable exhibit. By the way, the very model of the city's central attraction was borrowed from Stockholm ( Skansen Park) and Lunda (Kulturen Complex)

.

What is interesting about Jonkoping Park?

The main decoration of the Jönköping City Park is the unique open-air museum, which is a complex consisting of more than 10 buildings and all kinds of structures. Among the most interesting exhibits:

  1. The ancient bell tower , located in the northern part of the park and built, according to the researchers, in the middle of the XVII century.
  2. Agricultural building Ryggåsstugan. A feature of this type of building is the presence of one large room, where the ceiling reaches the roof. A suitable structure was found by Algot Freiberg at the border of the two historic provinces of Sweden (Halland and Småland) and purchased for 120 cu.
  3. Barracks. An interesting example of a place where once there were real soldiers. This is a fairly large structure, which has a kitchen, a living room, a veranda, and several small barns.
  4. A stone ship. An important exhibit of the museum in the open air is the imitation of a real burial place in prehistoric Scandinavia. The name comes from the shape and appearance of the monument, reminiscent of the silhouette of the ancient Viking ship.
  5. The drawing-room , brought to the Jönköping Park in 1903 from the village of Molskog. The principle of the mechanism is simple: a wire of appropriate thickness is pulled through a special shape, which makes it thinner. Similar mills appeared in Sweden at the beginning of the 12th century, and a water wheel was used to convert the energy.
  6. The Museum of Birds , built in 1914-1915. The project was designed by architect Oskar Oberg. To date, its collection has about 1500 copies: 350 different species of birds and more than 2500 eggs. The oldest exhibit dates back to 1866 - 5 eggs of a small bird of the top. The museum is open for visits from May to August.

In the park there are also 2 cafes, Stadsparkskrogen and Nya Alphyddan, where after a long excursion you can taste delicious and hearty snacks with traditional dishes of Swedish cuisine .
