Wall of the Reformation

As you know, Geneva is a great place for tourists, while it keeps a rich and difficult past. Once the city played a significant role in the history of the whole of Europe, becoming the center of Protestants and Reformers, including scandalous philosophers: Calvin, Beza and Farel. In due time these scientists could make a grandiose coup and became for the society real heroes.

In the central, lush park of the Bastions you can get acquainted with the most important historical landmark of Geneva - the Wall of the Reformation. It is located on the territory of the university, whose founder is ZHal Calvin. Established it in honor of the events of the Protestant Reformation, in order to perpetuate its main figures.

General information

The Wall of the Reformation appeared in Geneva in 1909, the four hundredth anniversary of the birth of Jean Calvin. This significant monument contained 10 statues of the most important figures of Calvinism. In the center are Jean Calvin, Theodore Beza, Guillaume Farel and John Knox. Actually, these figures conquered more than three million people with their Protestant ideas and created a "reformatory Rome" in Geneva.

In the right and left part of the wall are other figures of Calvinism, who were leaders in other countries of the world. The wall of the Reformation is nine meters high. In theory, such a height symbolizes the significance of the reformers' activities. The leaders of Calvinism themselves in height reach about five meters, and the rest of the representatives - 5. Behind their huge statues is the engraving "Post Tenebras Lux" - "After darkness - light." This was the main slogan of Jean Calvin and the other leaders of the movement.
