Exploring caves

About underground cavities there are mentions since 1856. In 1936 Wilhelm Schweck, using the available information, with his group of foresters began excavations in the area of the Sacred Hole, which led to the discovery of large caves.

After 6 weeks they opened a cave with a depth of 27 m, and found a corridor that ran in two directions. On April 14, 1938, the researchers discovered the vast expanse of the Giants Dome, and then other areas of the upper floor of the Jaworzic caves. Soon the access to the surface was dug, and in 1939 the caves were open to the public.

However, even after this research continued. Additionally were opened:

Jaworzic caves are the largest in the Czech Republic . The length of the passages reaches 4000 m. For the public, 790 m of corridors are open. The time for viewing the caves is approximately 1 hour. Underground spaces are located on three levels:

  1. Upper. It consists of the largest rooms with very beautiful stalactites. Their wealth is especially prominent in the Fairy Caves and in the Dome of the Giants. In the cave of the World in the ceiling areas are very large helictites. These caves are accessible to visitors.
  2. Average. Characterized by smaller spaces, often very confusing compared to the upper floor. In height, they share 30 m. This level is not so rich in stalactites, and access for tourists is closed here.
  3. Lower. In the middle level there are a lot of failures, through which water has left. Numerous abysses and corridors indicate that there is another level, but it has not yet been studied.
