Idleness as a sin

About seven deadly sins everyone has heard, some of them are not in doubt, but others cause only a misunderstanding of the criminality of these phenomena. For example, idleness (idleness, laziness) as a sin is not considered all. Indeed, this is not murder or violence, what can be wrong with such behavior? Let's try to figure out what "idleness" means, and why many consider it the mother of all vices.

What is idleness?

Agree, the word "idleness" is not often used and what it means, not everyone can say, so first it is necessary to define this concept. If you look at the explanatory dictionary, you can see several synonyms idleness - laziness , idleness, spending time without any useful occupation. But why is idleness regarded as a sin, is there anyone at least capable of working without a break? We all spend our time in different ways without work, resting, spending time with my family, watching television programs or the latest news on the Internet. So, we are all hopeless sinners, where did this opinion come from?

One would think that idleness as sin is considered exclusively by the Christian tradition, especially if we recall the historical dependence of the church on other citizens - they will be cool, they will not earn much, and therefore the parish will not get much money. The truth is in this opinion, but not everything is so simple, the concept of work implies not only physical work, but also mental exercises. That is, when our body does not work, the brain still has to work - to receive and assimilate new information, to process the acquired knowledge and draw conclusions. And any religion, any spiritual teaching, even psychology means the aspiration of a person upwards, that is, speaks about the need for self-improvement. Therefore, the opinion of the sinful aimless pastime is not so much a religious necessity as a natural human need for development. Idling, we sin against our human nature, rolling down to the animal state, not knowing the higher experiences.

Now the meaning of the statement "idleness - the mother of all vices" becomes clear too, since laziness dictates to us the desire not to develop, to remain always in place. And none of us is perfect, and without work on ourselves will not only retain bad qualities, but also develop them - indulging the desires of only the body is too pleasant.
