Manic condition - a special state of the human psyche , according to the degree of depth can manifest itself from variants of normal behavior to a psychopathological syndrome characterized by a triad of symptoms:
- high mood;
- mental excitement in the form of accelerated thinking and speech;
- motor excitement.
Also, in manic states, as a rule (but not in all cases), intensification and acceleration of instinctive reflex activity (increased sexuality, appetite and strengthening of self-defense tendencies), distraction increases. Characteristic reappraisal of one's own personality and possibilities, sometimes reaching a level of delusions about one's own significance (megalomania) is characteristic.
In most cases, manic syndrome is observed in the simptomo complex of bipolar affective disorder (manic depressive state). In these cases, the manic phase proceeds paroxysmally, followed by a depressive phase. Of course, the severity of the symptoms that make up the structure of manic "episodes" can be different and manifest differently in the same patient at different times.
Manic schizophrenia
The manic state of bipolar disorder should be distinguished from manic schizophrenia, which is a known complication even for specialists. Manic schizophrenia is characterized by the manifestation of persistent manic tendencies of one, the most characteristic of which can be considered a maniacal love for some real person or an imaginary object-subject. However, the presence of such manifestations is not yet a decisive sign of the definition of schizophrenia .
In addition, manic conditions can be observed in infectious, toxic (alcoholic and narcotic), organic and other psychoses.
Types of manic states
There are several variants of manic states:
- joyous mania (classic manic syndrome with motor excitement, elevated mood, speech and
thinking activity); - Angry mania (characterized by irritability, quick temper, aggressiveness);
- manic-paranoid variant (dominated by delusional ideas of attitude and persecution);
- delusional version (stable persistent delusions of grandeur and own positive exclusivity);
- Onyeroid mania (with fantastic hallucinatory experiences).
In all such cases, you should contact a specialist doctor or at least a psychologist.
