Green onion on the windowsill

There is no better way to avoid becoming a victim of spring vitamin deficiency than a small vitamin bed on your own window sill. And there is no vegetable more suitable for growing at home than onions. About different ways how to grow a green onion in the window sill, we'll talk today.

Method one - green onion on the windowsill in water

Who among us in the school years did not conduct an uncomplicated experiment on the germination of a bulb in water? For those who forgot its conditions, we recall: you need to take a bulb of a common onion and place it in a container with water so that the water touches only its bottom. Well, if the bulb is already a little sprouted, but if not - it does not matter, success is guaranteed in any case, and in a few days you can wait for the appearance of the first green sprouts . Particularly impatient can spur the process of germination by adding a weak solution of complex fertilizer to water, but this must be done very carefully, because its surpluses can do harm to health. The life span of the bulb so germinated is not long - only a few weeks, after which it will exhaust all its resources and it will have to be thrown out.

The second way is green onion on the windowsill in the ground

This method of home-grown onions is very similar to the previous one, with the only difference that instead of water, a land mixture is used as a nutrient medium. To give the bulbs everything you need, the soil mixture must be both loose and nutritious. For planting, select strong healthy bulbs with a diameter of about 2 cm and plant them in a deep enough (at least 7 cm) container, filled to the brim with a soil mixture. To accelerate the process of germination, The bulbs are lowered into hot water before planting and are sent to a hot battery for 24 hours.

The third way is green onion on the windowsill of seeds

The seed method is the most unpopular way to acquire onion greens on your own window sill. And this is not surprising, because it requires the most labor and a long time. For example, the first harvest will have to wait at least a month and a half. The process of planting is as follows: seeds are soaked for the night in ordinary water, and then dipped briefly into a weak solution of potassium permanganate. Then they are sown to a depth of 3-4 cm in any suitable container, on the bottom of which you must first lay drainage. Then over the capacity arrange a mini-greenhouse (wrapped in polyethylene, covered with a glass jar, etc.) and sent to a warm place with good light until germination.
