Baskets from newspaper tubes

Efficient owners gather old newspapers: suddenly come in handy. But if the case does not appear, the "waste paper" can accumulate enough. Do not hurry to throw it away, there is a remedy for sad thoughts and idleness - weaving baskets from newspaper tubes. The tubes are prepared from newspaper strips 5-6 cm wide, twisting gently over the knitting needles and gluing the tip with glue. Wizards of weaving baskets from newspapers are advised to cut off the side edges of newspaper sheets, which are always white, and therefore they are easy to paint.

Master-class: weaving of a square basket from newspapers

To make a basket of newspaper tubes, you need to pick up a cardboard box of a square shape, stock up with glue, ready newspaper tubes and, of course, patience.

  1. On the sides of the box we glue two tubes at a distance of 6-7 cm from each other. Their ends are attached with clothespins. Along the perimeter of the bottom we attach one tube.
  2. Now you can start the weaving. Taking two newspaper tubes, attach their ends to the tubes, which determine the bottom and sides of the basket. We thrust them under the two side tubes, and then superimpose them on the next two tubes. Then again, put it under the next two tubes.
  3. The next row must be mirrored to the previous one. Do not forget that the ends of the tubes that you are weaving need to be hidden and pasted for the previous row.
  4. When you twist the desired height of the basket, each pair of tubes that we glued to the sides of the basket, cut off the protruding ends. Now you need to insert each uncut tube, glued on the side, under the tube in the neighborhood in such a way as to hide the end of the cropped "stumps".
  5. Pulling out all the long ends of the side tubes, rubbing them on the top edge of the product and hiding the ends in the previous rows, glue together and put on top clothespins for better gluing.
  6. When the product dries well, you can deal with its decor - glue the outer and inner bottom of the basket of cloth or cardboard, attach the handles. A basket of newspapers with your own hands is ready!

Master class: a basket round of newspaper tubes

To make such a nice basket you need ready-made newspaper tubes and two circles of cardboard, glue.

  1. We make the bottom. On one of the circles we paste 12 newspaper sticks, from the top we attach the second circle.
  2. Turning the glued tubes up almost perpendicular to the bottom, we begin the weaving. We take two newspaper tubes, attach their ends to the details of the future basket and a plait in the technique of "two ropes": one tube is put through the side tube, and the second one - on top of it. On the next side tube we do the opposite.
  3. After making 3-4 rows, bend the side tubes of degrees to 45 degrees and continue the weaving.
  4. When you weave 15-20 rows, the lateral tubes again bend perpendicular to the bottom. To form a basket handle, we select four side tubes opposite each other. The rest are hiding the same way as in the previous master class on how to weave baskets from newspapers of rectangular shape. We continue the weaving on 4 tubes on each side, gradually narrowing the rows.
  5. Forming the same 8 side tubes as a handle in the form of a bridge, on them we wind up newspaper tubes, fixing with glue.
  6. After drying, the product can be painted. By the way, for painting baskets from newspaper tubes I usually use aerosol paints.
