Arabis - growing out of seeds

Arabis - unpretentious flowering plant, which forms a lush and picturesque floral carpet, because it is loved by the owners of alpires and rockeries . In total there are about 200 species of this plant, but the most popular in our latitudes are only two: the Arabian Caucasus and the Alpine.

Description of the arabic perennial

The height of the plant is about 20-25 cm, the stems are stalking and weaving. The flowers of arabesque, 1-1.5 cm in diameter, have a sweet pleasant aroma, and after a long flowering period (about a month, approximately in May-June), the plant continues to delight in thick foliage with a silvery tinge. The leaves of the Arabian are light green, fluffy, oblong with smooth or jagged edges. Plant it, usually along the tracks, among the alpine hills and along the mix benders. A combination of arabes and tulips is very advantageous.

Cultivation of arabesis from seeds

Arabis is an unpretentious perennial plant that feels particularly well in soft loose ground, for example, sandy. Places are better to choose well-lit, then the plant will grow and develop especially actively.

Seeds of Arabians are sown in special boxes or in early October or in spring - in April-May. The optimum soil temperature should be approximately 20 ° C. Sow the seeds shallowly - about 5 mm from the surface. In order to ensure good germination, it is possible to cover seeds with a nonwoven material, for example, an agropan, which will simplify watering, prevent water from washing away the soil and ensure uniform moistening, preventing stagnation of water, which can be detrimental both to young and already mature plant.

Planting, growing and caring for Arabian seedlings

After appearing on shoots 2-3 full-leaf leaves, seedlings can be transplanted into the open ground. It is best to do this according to the scheme of 40 by 40 cm. If you want the overgrown arabesque to cover the entire planting area, it makes sense to plant 3-4 wells in one well, then they will grow into a uniform carpet that completely covers the soil during flowering. After planting, the plant should be fertilized with mineral fertilizers, which will ensure a long period of lush flowering.

After the flowering, the stems on which the flowers were were cut to 3-4 cm from the ground and sprinkled with earth. They will quickly grow back and the next year will bloom even more magnificent. Cut off the same stems can be used as cuttings for vegetative reproduction. Irrigation of arabes should be carried out only during a prolonged drought, in ordinary conditions, it suffers episodic natural moistening.

After planting the seedlings tend to blossom next year, although, when planted in the spring, they can become covered with flowers at the end of August under appropriate weather conditions.

Reproduction of arabes

Arabis can be grown in several ways: from seeds, cuttings and by dividing an already existing bush. Cuttings practice in the period May-June, for these purposes it is optimal to use part of the new escape of the current year or, as already mentioned above, to take the crop cut off after flowering. The bottom two leaves are removed and the cuttings are planted obliquely to a depth of about 4 cm, and you can do this both on the beds in the greenhouse, and on a permanent place, necessarily priteniv grass or leaves. Rooting takes an average of 3 weeks.

Division of the bush can be carried out in spring - in April or at the end of summer. From one four-year-old bush it turns out to be 30 young. It is also possible to separate a part of the plant without digging out the parent. They are "delenki" at a distance of 30 cm from each other.
