An-sur-Les

In Belgium there are so many natural treasures that strike with their beauty and uniqueness. Such places include the extraordinary cave An-sur-Les. Getting into it, you are immersed in a real underground kingdom that has its interesting history and stunning exhibits. In Belgium, the cave An-sur-Les takes pride of place among popular attractions , annually it is visited by more than half a million tourists. We will tell in more detail about this amazing object.

Excursion in the cave

The An-sur-Les cave appeared due to the karst dissolution of the limestone hill, which was influenced by the flowing river Les below it. Inside it tunnels have already formed for a long time in the form of entangled labyrinths, the total length of which is equal to 15 km. The depth of the cave has not yet been accurately measured, but reaches more than 150 meters. So you can almost imagine the huge dimensions of An-sur-Les. Naturally, the tour of it is not carried out alone, but with the help of a guide, special transport and equipment.

The tour of the cave lasts about 2 hours. Inside it, in summer and in winter, the weather is cool enough: the air temperature rises to a maximum of +13 and a high humidity is constantly observed. The visit to the cave itself is divided into two stages: viewing the halls of stalactites and a light show. In the halls you will meet with real miracles. One of them was called "Minaret" - a huge stalactite, which is more than 1200 years old. Its height reaches 7 m, and the circle is equated to 20 m. It is located at a depth of 100 meters under the ground. The rest of the stalactites are not of such impressive size, but large enough to get the title of "pearls" of the cave.

The second part of the tour, as already said - it's a light show. Naturally, it is created artificially, but at the same time it makes a terrific impression on all visitors. The show ends with a cannon volley, the sound of which spreads across all the tunnels of the cave.

How to get there?
