Curve Bridge

One of the attractions of the city of Mostar , is the Krivoy Bridge, which connects two parts of the city, located along the sides of the Radobolia River . This is a small structure, but very beautiful, built like an accurate, albeit a small copy of another tourist attraction of the city - the Old Bridge .

History of construction

Interestingly, according to one version of the researchers and historians, Krivoi bridge was built even before the Old Bridge. Allegedly, his creator Hayruddin trained before starting to build a more significant and massive, grandiose project, which is the Old Bridge.

However, no one can say how reliable this version is. As there is also evidence that the supposedly Krivoy Bridge was built before the architect arrived in Mostar. Perhaps he was inspired by him and eventually used it as a kind of prototype of the Old Bridge that became the symbol of the city.

Also, the researchers found that he funded the construction of Cheyvan-czech. Confirmation of this is issued by this man back in 1558 - a mortgage. It said that interest on the loan will be sent directly to the servicing of the Curve Bridge.

Main city highways

The curve (which is the name of the Curve Bridge in the Bosnian language) has for many years been the main city road linking the two parts of the city.

Because the movement on it was extremely active. When these lands passed under the authority of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, other bridges were built in the city, wider and equal. So the Krivoy Bridge has ceased to be one of the main in the city. In addition, there were not very convenient approaches to it - first you had to go down to the bridge, and then climb up from it.

But for tourists the bridge is still quite attractive, despite its relative inaccessibility.

New Curve Bridge: rebuilt after a flood

Interestingly, until 1999, this bridge was the most ancient architectural landmark in Mostar , erected in the era of the Ottoman Empire. However, he could not withstand the severe floods that damaged the supports and the bridge collapsed under the influence of powerful water flows.

It is worth admitting that in his history he suffered no more problems from more active floods, but in 1999 the damage caused by the structure during the Bosnian war, which lasted from 1992 to 1995, also caused damage.

Fortunately, the support of UNESCO, as well as the finances and technical support of the Principality of Luxembourg, helped to open the reconstructed bridge in 2002.

How to get there?

First you need to fly to the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the city of Sarajevo . There is no direct air service with Russia, and therefore you will have to fly with transplants - in Turkey, Austria or another country.

Then buses or trains will come to the aid. For example, from Sarajevo to Mostar buses run almost every hour. The journey will take about two and a half hours. The same will take the road and the train, although the trains are less comfortable than buses, but there is the opportunity to admire the charming mountain views. Three trains run daily from Sarajevo to Mostar . The cost of a train ticket is almost half that of a bus.
