Historical reference

Visiting the Mostar in summer, you can find a small stream instead of a river, sandwiched between stone banks and lazily flowing towards Neretva . After prolonged rains, Radobolia turns into a violent stream, sometimes comes out of the shores and podtaplivaet nearby houses. The river bed of this river, almost completely, was created by human hands in the Middle Ages. Water mills were built along the banks, some of which can be seen today, having traveled a few kilometers outside the city. The Radobolia River is part of the history of Mostar, so it's also worth to visit the famous Krivoi Bridge on Radobol'e.

Curve bridge on Radobol'e

An interesting bridge, which because of its curved shape was called Krivoi , is only 50 meters from the main local landmark - the Old Bridge . The similarity of the two architectural forms immediately strikes the eye. According to one of the versions, the bridge was built by Krivoy Hierreddin, thus developing the technology of building the future main bridge through the Neretva. But recently in the city archives were found documents indicating the cost of maintaining a bridge on the river Radobol'e, dated the earlier period. Therefore, it is possible that the bridge is slightly older than its famous neighbor.

For many years the Krivoy Bridge was part of the main city road with active traffic. Its peculiarity lies in its low position above the water, it needs to descend and then rise, and the Krivoy Bridge itself is very steep. After the Austrian authorities launched the construction of roads and other bridges, a bridge across the river Radobolia began to be used less. For the townspeople who rush on business, this is not the most convenient way, but tourists love it for an ancient romantic look. The Curve Bridge was considered the oldest surviving architectural monument of the Turkish period in Mostar. In December 1999, it was destroyed by flooding, but after 3 years the bridge was completely restored with the financial and technical assistance of UNESCO and the principality of Luxembourg.
