Phallologic Museum - description

The Fallological Museum is located in Reykjavik and was founded in 1997. The director and the founder of this unusual object is Sigurdur Hjartarson. He began collecting artifacts since 1974. He was inspired by a friend who brought a whip from a dried penis as a gift from the Snaifeldsn peninsula . This first specimen also marked the beginning of such an unusual hobby.

In his building are stored in a conserved form of mammalian dildos that inhabit the territory of Iceland . There are also specimens belonging to mammals that do not reside on the territory of the country. More than 240 exhibits are presented in the museum. At the same time, 195 of them were mothballed by the director himself. In July 2011, the collection was replenished with a man's penis.

Of interest are the decorative elements that adorn the museum building. So, at the entrance to it is a sign that has the shape of a penis. Around the building are variations on the theme of the phallus, made of stones of different shapes. Inside the structure on the walls are hung animal members in dried form. The territory of the museum is lined with regiments containing flasks with floating in formaldehyde penises of various animals: an elephant, seals, polar bears, reindeer, fox, mink, rat, guinea pig and others. As a lighting apply lamps made from bull testicles, which are made personally by the director of the museum.

The museum is very popular among tourists of all countries and annually has about 12 000 visitors. According to statistics, most of them (about 60%) are women.

As the director of the museum assures, the collection was collected not for pornography, but solely for scientific and educational purposes.
