Tormørk Valley

Tormørk Valley is a picturesque place in the southern part of Iceland , covered with forests, surrounded by mountains and hills. In the center is the eponymous mountain range, from which the valley got its name. The local dialect Tormørk translates as "the forest of the Torah." According to the Icelandic beliefs, the Scandinavian god of thunder and thunder liked to rest in this valley from his hard work.

History of the Tormørk Valley

The Tormørk Valley is formed during the process of melting three glaciers with mysterious names Mirdalsøkütl, Tindafyatlakökull and Eyjafjallajokkul. Stormy waters washed the sloping plain and created this unique landscape. The wild and severe landscape is permeated with silvery streams of many streams. From the dark gloomy peaks fast mountain rivers flow and spread among the bright green mosses. Birch forests impress with their charm and beauty. And among all this majestic beauty stands Mount Valahnukur, with a 456-meter height which you can see an unrivaled view of the surroundings, from which it simply captures the spirit. Initially, the name Tormørk was only in the part of the mountain range that lies between the river Markarflow and its tributaries Krossau and Throngau. With the development of hiking through moss-covered slopes, the beautiful name spread to the sloping plain. After the eruption of the Eyjafjallajökull volcano in the late spring of 2010, the Tormørk Valley was spoken around the world. Then the terrain for several months was covered with a layer of volcanic ash. It was only thanks to the forces of nature that the original land was restored to its pristine purity.
